Now that Mexico didn't win, what has to happen for them to pass to the next round?

They would have to win against Portugal or tie. If they tie i believe they will pass to the second round but as the "wild card" team. Because they may be second in points in their group, but tie or have more points than the first place of another team.

It's a little complicated but here it goes.



The best two teams of each group advance to the next round. Mexico has 4 points right now. A win and a tie. These are the scenarios:



Scenario #1: If Mexico wins its next game they will automatically pass to the next round with 7 points because there are two teams (Angola and Iran) that can't reach 7 points.



Scenario #2: If Portugal beats Iran.



Mexico will advance with a win or a tie on their next game. If they lose their third game, it will depend on the Angola-Iran game. If Angola beats Iran the one with more goals goes on.



Scenario #3: If Portugal and Iran tie.



Mexico will advance with a win or tie. If they lose their third game and Iran beats Angola then Mexico passes because they beat Iran before. If Mexico loses and Angola beats Iran, the one with more goals goes on.



Scenario #4: If Iran beats Portugal.



Mexico will advance with a win or a tie against Portugal. If they lose it will depend on the Angola-Iran game. Iran beats Angola, Mexico gets eliminated. Angola beats Iran, Mexico and Angola will be tied and the one with more goals advances.

Mexico will have to play Portugal will have to win in order to get 3 points thats a total of 7 points.but they tied the game Mexico will get 5 points. and may be runner up to the second round. you got to keep in mind that Portugal is going to play Iran. If they win(Portugal) they'll be in first place, sending Iran home

well i just finished watching the game actually. They lost to portugal but they passed only because the other two teams tied. Some people say that this was not fair but if mexico passed then they passed and i think that is great.

well lets c mexico is most likely to qualify as it is but to b more specific if it wins its next match against portugal it will b leader in the group if it ties it will b second in the group and if it looses wich i really hope it doesnt (bcuz id kill somebody) in order to qualify angola would either have to tie or loose against iran or win by only 1 goal against them those are all posible outcomes

ok look..may b u didn't know but even tho they didn't win they can still go on to the next round..i say they played based on this fact and

didnt try so hard cuz of that....but win or not they wuld still pass to the next game which i happen to know is portugal!!!

If they draw with Portugal, they have mathematically qualified, because it is impossible for two teams to surpass them. They can even finish first with a draw, as long as Iran beats Portugal and Angola beats Iran.
